WALKER BAY VINEYARDS

Welcome to our family-owned country estate, located near the historic village of Stanford, nestled beneath the Klein Rivier mountains. Our estate features the Walker Bay vineyards and wine cellar, established in 2003, and the Birkenhead Brewery, one of South Africa’s first craft breweries; founded in 1998. The estate also has a large restaurant where you can enjoy contemporary South African cuisine while enjoying the spectacular views of the Klein River Mountains. Join us for wine and beer tastings, and relaxed dining that’s perfect families.

The Walker Bay Estate was founded in 2003 with the planting of our first vines. Since then the estate has grown into a fully functioning vineyard and winery, with its own state-of-the-art winery. ​

The vineyards are situated just outside the heritage village of Stanford. They extend from the Klein River towards the cold Atlantic Ocean. This special landscape results in a unique mix of different soil types on the farm including decomposed granite, shale and outcrops of limestone. The cool breezes intensify the flavours by allowing for a long ripening period.

Anneke’s mentor and South Africa’s wine legend, Theo Brink, visits our farm regularly and is always excited about the quality of wines we can make on this small estate. We are forever grateful for his guidance and input.
